Quick Troubleshooting

Most issues can be resolved without contacting support.

The app is slow to respond

First Resort runs a 4B-parameter AI model on your device. On newer iPhones and iPads, responses typically come back in 2 to 5 seconds. On older devices, expect 10 to 30 seconds. If responses are taking much longer than that, try force-quitting the app and reopening. Also check that your device is not low on battery (iOS throttles AI workloads when the battery is low).

The app crashed or won’t open

Restart your device. If the app still won’t open, delete it and reinstall from the App Store. Your data is stored on-device only, so chat history that you didn’t manually save will be lost on reinstall.

Out-of-memory or background-kill on older devices

First Resort requests increased memory limits from iOS so it can fit the AI model. On 4 GB devices (iPhone 12 and earlier), close other apps before launching First Resort. If you still see memory pressure, a device with 6 GB RAM or more (iPhone 14 Pro and later, iPad Pro M-series) will give the most reliable experience.

An answer looks wrong

AI models can make mistakes, especially on edge cases. Do not rely on First Resort alone for any medical decision in a real emergency. Call 911 or a poison control hotline when you can. If you’ve found a specific incorrect answer, please email us the exact question you asked and what the model said. Real reports like this are what we use to fix the corpus and retrain.

The model refuses to answer a question

First Resort is intentionally trained to decline questions outside its scope. If you ask about specific medication doses, legal questions, or procedures requiring hands-on medical training, it will tell you so directly and point you to the right resource. This is by design. If you believe the decline is incorrect (the question is in scope but the app refused), let us know via email so we can review.

Your Data

First Resort does not collect any data about you, your questions, your location, or how you use the app. The AI model runs on your device. There is no account, no analytics, no telemetry, and no outbound network calls during normal use after the one-time model download. See the privacy policy for the full statement.

In a Real Emergency

Call 911 (or your local emergency number) first if you can reach it.

First Resort is a reference, not a replacement for emergency services. It is most useful when you cannot reach professional care (signal is gone, you are off-grid) or as a calm backup reference while you wait for help to arrive.
